Olly, A Robot Assistant with Personality

I think it is safe to say that many people would like to have a C3PO in their lives, I know I would... Today, not in a time long ago, there is a robot called Olly. Emotech, a London-based startup, is behind the creation of Olly, a voice-controlled robot assistant, kind of like Amazon Echo, but this one emulates a human personality. Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 2.01.34 PMhttps://ctovision.com/wp-content/uploads/Screen-Shot-2015-12-11-at-2.01.... 633w" sizes="(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px" />

The idea behind Olly is that it will be doing some auto piloting of individual's lifestyle needs, as it gets to know it's user better and their habits. It can also be used as a hub for controlling multiple smart home devices, hooking into Nest, Philips Hue, Fitbit, Pebble, IFTTT, Spotify and other social media services. The main reason for the creation of Olly is to help the "time-poor professionals," those who need a little bit of help optimizing their routines.

For example:

tell it a general goal of helping you read more books in the month — and then it will set about prompting you at (hopefully) opportune moments when it thinks you might have a window in your busy schedule to sit down and read.

The operating system is based on Android. How Olly works is that it will listen continuously for a voice trigger command before it sends any voice data to its cloud platform for processing. It will only record what you direct it to record, not your private conversations.

As well as being equipped with sensitive microphones designed to pick out voice commands from the general domestic chaos, Olly also has a camera for facial recognition and computer-vision-powered image processing so the bot can figure out who it’s looking at and respond accordingly.
